Provider Pays Model from 1st April 2022.
On the 1st of April 2022, NHS England will stop paying for the IT support required to provide the Community Pharmacy Consultation Service in a community pharmacy. At that point, community pharmacies will be able to choose the solution they feel will provide them with the right tools to manage their notifications, consultations, and claims. The cost of that solution will be paid for by the pharmacy contractor.
Update: March 2021
Animation and infographic launched by CPE explaining how GP practices can refer into the NHS Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS):
Reminder: December 2020
The Community Pharmacy Consultation Service (CPCS) connects patients who have a minor illness or need an urgent supply of a medicine with a community pharmacy.
The CPCS takes referrals to community pharmacy from NHS 111 (and NHS 111 online for requests for urgent supply), but there are plans for referrals to be taken from other parts of the NHS in time. The CPCS aims to relieve pressure on the wider NHS by connecting patients with community pharmacy, which should be their first port of call and can deliver a swift, convenient and effective service to meet their needs.
The CPCS provides the opportunity for community pharmacy to play a bigger role than ever within the urgent care system.
CPCS replaces the previous NUMSAS and DMIRS pilots which are now decommissioned.
