New Pharmacist Foundation Training Year - What you need to know!

Written by AlisonFreemantle on Thursday 3rd June 2021

Webinar on Thursday 17th June 2021 at 8pm to support Designated Supervisors (Previously Pre-Reg Tutors) with the NEW Foundation Training Year.

For all pharmacists intending to have a trainee pharmacist (previously called pre-reg) from July/ August this year.

You are invited to join a Health Education England (HEE) webinar to find out about support for the New Pharmacist Foundation Training Year starting August 2021 that replaces the previous pre-registration training year.

Background:

In January 2021, the GPhC published the revised Standards for the Initial Education and Training of Pharmacists with an aim to transform the education and training of pharmacists, so they are able to play a much greater role in providing clinical care to patients and the public from their first day on the register.

The fifth-year of training (previously called the pre-registration year) will now be called the Foundation Training Year. Learners on this programme will be referred to as Trainee Pharmacists and Pre-registration tutors will be referred to as Designated Supervisors.

The new Learning Outcomes will now be used to assess Trainee Pharmacists, replacing the Performance Standards.

HEE will primarily be involved in the quality management, design, management, and monitoring of the Foundation Training Year. In addition, they are developing resources and events to support you and your trainee pharmacists.
