Hypertension Case Finding Service

Pharmacies MUST DO both parts of the service
The Service
The service has 2 stages – Pharmacies MUST provide both stages
- Stage 1: Identifying people at risk of hypertension and offering them blood pressure monitoring (clinic check).
- Stage 2: Where clinically indicated, provide ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM).
Pharmacies cannot choose to just provide stage 1 - clinic BP readings and not provide stage 2 - ABPM. We’ve had reports that some pharmacies have said they don’t do ABPM or that they don’t have timely access to an ABPM.
Service Specification:
What changed on 1st Dec?
- The service can now be provided by any trained member of staff (it doesn’t need to be the pharmacist or technician).
- ABPM doesn’t need to be worn for 24 hrs – waking hours is sufficient
There will be an increased focus on delivery of ABPM and increasing the uptake of ABPM. NHSE will be auditing the service delivery.
If you’ve not yet signed up to deliver the service, sign up via MYS after reading the service specification, confirming IT provision and ensuring you have equipment required to deliver both BP and ABPM.
