World Suicide Prevention Day 10th September
In preparation for World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September) colleagues are asked to challenge the stigma that stops so many people at risk from suicide from asking for help.
Hampshire County Council are inviting everyone to take the twenty-minute Zero Suicide Alliance training to gain the skills and confidence to have a potentially life-saving conversation with someone you’re worried about. The word ‘suicide’ can be uncomfortable to mention. But not talking about suicide keeps it hidden and reinforces stigma. Stigma can stop people from reaching out when they need help and support. That’s where all staff and volunteers can act, by being prepared to talk to someone about suicide.
The aim of this training is to:
- Enable you to identify when someone is presenting with suicidal thoughts/behaviour
- Help you gain confidence to speak out in a supportive way
- Empower you to signpost people to services or support that can help.
