The Home Office launched the 'Ask for ANI' codeword scheme in January 2021. CPSC published the details in the following CPSC news article and recommended that all pharmacies participate in this scheme:
CPSC are pleased to have recently received the following good news story form Hampshire Constabulary. The story has been redacted to ensure that any identification of the pharmacy and type of prescription has been removed so that there is no chance of the client being recognised.
Domestic Abuse:
I thought that I would share a recent incident at a Community Pharmacy, in support of the Ask ANI initiative. A female entered the pharmacy (February), the pharmacist recognised her as a regular customer. Noticing that the female was in a bad way and had an injury, she approached her and started up a conversation and asked a few questions. Recognising the situation from her DA training the female was taken into the consultation room and the police were called. Whilst waiting for the police to attend the mother of the female’s partner kept calling on her mobile. Concerned that the female would leave without any support, the pharmacist continued to reassure her, stalling her enough for the police to arrive. The investigation is ongoing but whatever the final outcome the pharmacist, through her actions, has ensured that the female has been seen by safeguarding professionals and been offered support, advice and guidance. We are of the view that without the pharmacist’s interaction and initiative, instigated by her DA training, this female would have been put at further risk of harm. |
